Some teaser stuff for Ultrasylvania volume 2

So, the semester is at an end, and Ultrasylvania volume 2 will be coming out soon.  I figured I'd share a little bit of new stuff to get you ready for the debut in January. This first one here is a little rough drawing of Redford (the only American character in the game, and designed by yours truly) getting ready to shank someone.

This here is an in-progress ZBrush model of King Frankenstien.  If all goes well, you'll be seeing this guy adorning the Ultrasylvania table at some comic cons.

Here's the first version of what will hopefully be the cover of volume 2.  Unless the teachers are jerks, or course.  As far as I know, I'm the only one in class who developed a cover, so I'd say the odds of getting it are pretty damn good.

Here's the variant of the cover, with some lighting changes, and a less graphical approach to the lightning.

SPIDER-MAN MURAL FINISHED!

THE SPIDER-MAN MURAL FINISHED!!!

For the last month-or-so, Lloyd, Vincent, Ed, and I have been working on a basement mural at on a giant wall in Club 6.  We were going to their "so you think you can paint?" events every week and painting comic book murals until Club 6 owner, Angel, took notice and asked us to participate in their downstairs art galley/dance club/ bar.  If you've never been to Club 6, it's easily one of the most impressive bars in San Francisco.  Located at 60 6th St between Mission and Market, it features three concert rooms and bars, and an art gallery.  They have painting events, live rap/rock/punk/reggee shows there all the time, including famous bands like the Uptones.  You should go and check out our mural NOW!

Character Creation, Bleeding Cool News, and the Wolverine

Alright, so, in my attempt to get better at inking and drawing, I did what every self-respecting wanna-be comic artist does whenever he/she wants to get inspired: Draw Wolverine.

And this second drawing is for another AAU comic book club contest we held this last week: Character Creation.  We're each given two random powers that we had to combine to create a character.  I got 1)trans-dimensional storage and, 2)Extraordinary balance.
Here's my character:  An orphaned space circus trapese wire walker turned deadly space super pirate, Chux travels the galaxy with his transdimensional backpack in search of excess kirby crackle left over from the gods and cosmic beings that travel there.  He stores the crackle in his backpack in endless supplies, and uses it to smash evil space aliens into green goo globs as he searches for his long lost space pirate parents and the treasure they posses.

Lastly, I had another article featured on Bleeding Cool about Madefire studios in Berkeley. You can read it at http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/09/28/now-an-iphone-made-of-fire/

Ultrasylvania Cover Rough

Ooookay, and this is the last one of the day for me, and it's a cover design rough for Ultrasylvania 2.  Frankenstein is one of the leading characters of the graphic novel, and this is a portrait style painting rough.  It's not the final!  Just the first rough draft.

Ultrasylvania 2 concept designs

Alright, I'm not sure if any of you have been reading the Ultrasylvania web comic, and if you havn't, you SHOULD! RIGHT NOW!   http://www.ultrasylvania.com. Anyway, the first volume is done, and we're starting on the second now, so I thought I'd share some of the character designs I'm working on with you all. Hope you like them!

First ZBRUSH ever!

Alright, I have a bunch of stuff for you all to see today, the first being my VERY FIRST 3D model!  I've never used ZBrush before, but I've spent my lunches over the last week working on this lizard guy. Now I just have to figure out what to do with him now that he's done.  I actually really like using ZBrush, and it's something that I definitely want to get more involved with.

Planet Bananas part 1

Here's a comic that was published through AAU's comic anthology, Figments #5.  There was a four month waiting period where I couldn't post or publish it anywhere else, but that waiting period is over! If you like it, then you can also download the insanely awesome motion comic version for FREE on your Ipad through the app store (just look up "figments" and you're there.  Anyway, here's part one (part two will be coming out in a couple of months.

Venom Girl

Alright, here's my drawing of the venom girl contest from AAU's mini-drawing challenge.  We had to take one of the photos from the venom photo-shoot that was kicked off of facebook.  It features a female cosplayer that went all out to make a pretty sweet venom costume.  Anyway, here's the steps

STEP 1: SKETCH
I usually just do these in a sketch book with a blue col-erase pencil, then mess it in photoshop to make it look like graphite.  I'm left handed, so I need to use the waxy col-erase pencil or else I'll smear the drawing all over the page- plus, the blue col-erase is easy to get rid of in photoshop.

STEP 2: INK
I inked this directly into the sketchbook using brushes, and some microns for the trickery line work and small details.
STEP 3: PHOTOSHOP
Textures, color, and some special effects and BAM, we're done.
