New Job, popapocalypse and comic con

Sorry, y'all but I don't have all that much to show today, but I have a little something something.  I've been busy working at my new gig at MADEFIRE! The first comic book studio job I've ever been paid to do, and I couldn't be more proud. If you're not familiar with their stuff, google them, and you'll see the best motion comic work you've ever seen.  Right now I'm working with them as a builder, animating their comics and using their exclusive tool to build some amazing stuff.

So, enough about that. I don't want to make this too long, because my next weeks post is going to be gigantic, since it'll going to be my comic con post.

This character sketch is for popapocalypse:  The main hero of my story (known right now only by his serial number "9") has a healing factor, like deadpool or wolverine- a homage to the best superheroes I grew up with.  However, the catch is that since he's always so close to dying, but never does, he's attracted the sarcastic, angry scorn of the grim reaper, who personally shows up to antagonize him every time he's knocking on death's door.  So, basically, here 9 is getting beaten to death, cut up, shot, poisoned, you name it, and all of a sudden the grim reaper will appear to give him a purple nurple, or to make "your mama" jokes, or even to tell him how much of a disappointment he is.  I thought it would be a fun relationship to have in the mix, and I look forward to introducing him into the story.
ANYWAY, here's the concept design.

Superman drawing event

On Saturday I participated in the Cartoon Art Museum's promotional fundraiser for the upcoming "Man of Steel" Movie, along with good buddies Ha and Vincent.  Here's the three drawings I was able to get done before my markers ran dry.  You have you a Superman, a Lex Luthor, and a Doomsday eating an ice cream cone.  Afterwards I went and got some ice cream. Between all the artists we ended up earning us 100 bones for all them drawings, all of which went to the museum. Glad we could help!

Big Wow commisions

Big Wow last weekend was Awesome! I did 9 commissions! That's a record for me so far.  Here's some of my favorite ones from the weekend.

This was the last one of the commissions that I did, and it's from some old school video game.

Captain James T. Kirk

This isn't a commission....in fact, I don't know what the hell it is.

Galactus

A sentinal

This is of a guy named Spade.  I actually did two commissions for him.  It's a superhero that the guy wearing the costume had created.

Stuff I'm working on, and some great fan art for my Popapocalypse story

Alright, check it out BOYIEEEEE, I gots a bunch of stuff to show this week.  First off, since I'm busy at work on page 6 of Popapocalypse- the page where the Cornel (based on Cornel Sanders) is introduced- here's some fan art from one of my best friends, and one very talented artists Hà Huy Hoàng.  It's four of the main characters from the book- The Thief, The Clown, The Cornel, and the Captain. Can you guess who they're all based on?

The next few illustrations is a set of homework assignments that I did for the very awesome Fantasy and Sci-Fi illustration class with Stephen Player.  All these are based on paragraph long descriptions given to us by a fake "client." One is a giant flying fish ship that can cause storms, and the other is a giant toad that eats metal.

Wondercon Costumes 2013 Anahiem

Wondercon commisions!

So, the week after wondercon is crazy busy, but I was able to put together a post for all you peoples (meaning my mom, a couple of 13 year olds, and one very lonely individual living in Arkansas). I'll start this post off by saying that Wondercon in Anahiem is freaking AMAZIIIIINGGG!! I mean, this place was huge, and right outside of DISNEYLAND (where I spent many hours staring longingly through the gates. Until security kicked me out.)  So, because of all the major amounts of work I have to do, I'm gonna shut up now and show you the commissions that I did while I was at the P5 table.

Jafar, the best villain from Disney EVER!

some other Disney villain

I drew an evil brain gorilla in this sketchbook right near a Bachelo Sketch!
I drew the Pimp Barbarian for someone, and he let me keep the character idea!
Ash Fairless with the Malcolm Reynolds drawing I did
This guy with the Apocalypse and Batman
This one comes with a story! Yayyyyy! So, this guy had me draw him as the Clockwork Orange guy two years ago, and since then has started a whole collection of drawings of him as a character. So, this time around he had me draw him as Swampthing, and the talented Carla Wyzgala watercolored over it!

BOOM!

My concept work for Giant Realms

I totally forgot all this stuff yesterday that I wanted to show all of you- The game that I spent the last half a year working on finally came out for the android and all the smarty phones, and it's kicking ass all over the place.  It's called Giant Realms (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmo.mobile.giantrealms). What I mainly did was the particle effects, basically stuff like the volcano smoke and lava explosions, and when you tap on a coin, the coin burst that happens, but I was able to do the concept designs for one of the giants: THE DESERT GIANT.  Now that the game is out, I can finally show off the sketches I did when designing him.

This week is a light one, because I have a lot of pots on the stove but nothing is really bubbling yet.  However, to tide you all over for a week, I have my in-progress Popapocolypse page #5, and my sci-fi and fantasy illustration homework, which is also a WIP.

Popapocolypse Preview and ECCC commisions

ECCC got me all revved up to make some more comics: and my current one, Popapocolypse, is what I'm currently working on.  What we gots here is the first few pages of the comic, set to premier in the next edition of Figments, and then on the Popapocolypse website debuting this summer.  Popapocolypse is my ultimate creation, with elements from all my previous comics, and it's a love letter to my childhood, my country and it's culture, and our comic books.  I'll be reveling the story slowly to you as it's happening, because I don't want to give too much away, but It's something that I'm really proud of, and taking my time with (while I also work and go to school, and do my internship).  I aim for a page a week until summer, when I can ramp up the production a little bit.  Here's the first few pages in the stages of production that they're in currently.

What we have here is the floating continent of Australia, the only surviving government after WW3, or the Creation War as some like to call it.  Australia survived by raising part of it's continent above the clouds, where they've established a "big brother" type society.  It's been a hundred years.  The group you see here are rebels, raging against the machine, and led by the enigmatic leader known as No. 9.  Currently things look kind of bad, as they're about to walk the plank.

The judges, wearing gas masks to protect their fragile wussy lungs from the harsh open air have judged the rebels as being guilty, and exiled them from the floating country by forcing them to walk the plank.

A better look at the floating country of Australia

No. 9 and his rebels fall towards what's left of the earth, a hundred years after the creation bomb exploded, causing the popapocolypse (I can't wait to show you what that means, and what this world looks like) but first they must pass through the acid clouds that cover this dangerous world.  The next page is the revel of some of the world.

Alright, I'm gonna go back to work on this, because I'm just too damn excited about it.

Oh, also, here's some commissions I did at the ECCC

I'm not going to post the Gambit/Rouge one, because I hate it.
